Muscat – The Oman Cancer Association (OCA) unveiled details of the 20th annual walkathon during a press conference held on Wednesday.
The walkathon – themed ‘No One Fights Alone’ – will be held on October 29 at the Oman Automobile Association.
The annual walk is one of the association’s most prominent community events, which is held to raise awareness about cancer and provide support to patients and their families. The event will feature a variety of awareness activities and sports events.
Dr Waheed bin Ali al Kharousi, Chairman of the Board of Directors of OCA, highlighted the significance of the walk in supporting cancer patients. He noted that the event fosters social connections and raises awareness about the importance of early detection and effective treatment.
“Thousands of participants of all ages gather to support research and treatment advancements through competitions, group walking, music and entertainment. This year’s walk will cover a distance of 1.8km.”
Sulaiman bin Abdullah bin Ali al Rawahi, Director General of the Oman Automobile Association, spoke of the association’s commitment to social responsibilities and its readiness to host events that attract large crowds.
“The walk provides an opportunity for patients and their families to connect with the supportive community and share their success stories, promoting a spirit of positivity and optimism among participants.”
Dr Manal bint Abdul Majeed al Zadjali, Secretary General of OCA, said that the event’s slogan ‘No One Fights Alone’ will be printed on the T-shirts worn during the walk. She encouraged everyone to take part in this event.
