Iran suspends all domestic flights amid heightened tensions

2 Oct 2024 By OUR CORRESPONDENT

Tehran, Iran – The spokesperson for the Civil Aviation Organisation has announced that all domestic flights across Iran will be suspended until 5 a.m. on Thursday in a bid to ensure flight safety amid escalating regional tensions.

The decision follows a missile attack carried out by Iran’s Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) on Tuesday night, targeting Israeli military installations in the occupied Palestinian territories. This attack was described as a retaliation for the assassination of key figures, including Hamas chief Ismail Haniyeh, Hezbollah leader Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah, and IRGC commander Abbas Nilforoushan.

Jafar Yazarlou, the spokesperson, stated that necessary arrangements are being made to redirect flights to safer alternative routes. He also noted that a comprehensive assessment of the risks to the country’s airspace and flight operations is currently underway.
