Muscat – The Mahdah Honey and Dates Forum 2024, which concludes on Sunday at the Al Nahda Club sports hall in the wilayat of Mahdah, has brought together around 70 exhibitors in a celebration of the wilayat’s prized honey and dates.
The five-day event not only promoted these key agricultural products but also provided interactive spaces for children and craftsmen, drawing a wide audience till Saturday.
The forum was organised to promote the natural and economic strengths of the area, with a special focus on boosting honey and dates and related products.
The event is being perceived as an opportunity to strengthen the trade relations between the local producers and importers, while encouraging collaborations between government bodies, private companies, and civil society organisations to support the region’s economic growth.
Dr Hamad bin Ahmed al Busaidi, Governor of Buraimi, described the forum as an important step towards bolstering the agricultural sector and supporting local farmers.
“This platform allows producers to share experiences and effectively market their products, while also highlighting the rich resources of the region,” he said. He also stressed the importance of the event in raising awareness about food security and promoting innovation in agriculture.
Zaher bin Mohammed al Kaabi, head of the Oman Chamber of Commerce and Industry (OCCI), Buraimi branch, noted that the forum demonstrated a strong commitment to supporting key economic sectors, especially in food security.
“The event has opened new commercial opportunities for the honey and date producers of the region,” he said.
The first edition of the forum last year attracted more than 60 exhibitors and generated considerable interest, underlining the importance of food security as a driver of the local economy.
With a bigger participation this year, the forum has become a vital platform for exchanges between the producers, experts and investors, Kaabi added.
