Muscat – Delegated by His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik, Dr Mohammed Said al Ma’amari, Minister of Endowments and Religious Affairs, led the sultanate’s delegation at the International Meeting for Peace in Paris, which concluded on Tuesday.

The conference, themed ‘Imagine Peace’, brought together leaders and representatives from several countries to discuss ways to achieve global peace.

Ma’amari conveyed the greetings and well-wishes of His Majesty the Sultan to the conference attendees, reaffirming Oman’s strong commitment to peace. He referenced the sultanate’s Basic Law, which states that ‘peace is the goal of the state’, and reiterated that Oman is dedicated to a vision of global harmony.

In his address, Ma’amari reflected on Oman’s long-standing tradition of fostering connections and understanding across cultures. “We have worked to cultivate friendship, understanding, respect and coexistence with all,” he said, emphasising the need for kindness and peaceful engagement in the pursuit of shared humanitarian goals. He also underscored the role of Oman as a nation that actively promotes dialogue between religions and cultures, noting ongoing projects aimed at advancing tolerance and mutual respect.

Ma’amari pointed out that the timing of the international peace meeting is critical, given the global challenges and shifts taking place. He described a world at a crossroads, where the forces of division and discord are competing with those who strive for unity. “The consequences of our choices today will resonate through present and future generations,” he said, highlighting the importance of decisions made at such gatherings.

While reflecting on the global state of affairs, Ma’amari drew attention to the irony of new challenges continuing to emerge despite advancements in technology and communication meant to unite people. He mentioned cyber campaigns aimed at causing instability and the rise of ideological extremism that fuels violence and conflict.

In his closing remarks, Ma’amari called for peace to be the driving force for the future, lighting the way towards a more secure and peaceful world.
