Muscat – The Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology (MTCIT) has launched a campaign to promote the National Digital Economy Programme in Dakhliyah.
In partnership with Central Bank of Oman (CBO), the Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Investment Promotion (MoCIIP), and Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (TRA), the campaign aims to raise awareness among government employees, individuals and students about the country’s plans for digital transformation, e-commerce and infrastructure development.
The programme is a major part of Oman’s vision of the digital economy contributing 10% to the gross domestic product by 2040. Key areas include government digital transformation, financial technology, and improvements in cybersecurity and artificial intelligence.
During the campaign, MoCIIP will stress the importance of regulating online commercial transactions to ensure a safe environment for both consumers and businesses. It’s aim is to position Oman as a leading regional hub for e-commerce by 2027.
The campaign will see CBO share details of its efforts to promote financial inclusion and innovation through new electronic payment solutions. One of its key initiatives is a unified electronic platform called ‘Know Your Customer’, which streamlines customer verification processes.
Additionally, TRA will highlight its ongoing work to improve Oman’s digital infrastructure, focusing on expanding broadband coverage and advancing fifth-generation (5G) networks. These improvements will play a vital role in accelerating digital transformation across various sectors.
