Muscat – The 8th Omani Theatre Festival will take place from September 22 to October 1, 2024, at Al Irfan Theatre, Oman Convention and Exhibition Centre. Eight Omani theatrical groups will compete for top prizes, showcasing creative and diverse performances.
His Excellency Sayyid Saeed bin Sultan al Busaidi, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Youth, emphasised the festival’s significance in addressing social issues and discovering new talents. He also highlighted the inclusion of parallel shows and an art exhibition alongside the main competition.
The festival’s first performance, ‘Al Jadr’ by Luban Troupe, will kick off on September 23, followed by several other performances from Omani troupes. Additionally, an intellectual symposium, ‘Towards an Effective Omani Theatre,‘ will be held, featuring discussions on topics such as comedy, children’s theatre, and cultural investment in theatre.
The festival will also honour prominent figures in Omani theatre, and guest artists from across the Arab world will attend, including renowned names from the UAE, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, and Egypt.
