Rishav Raman, an emerging Oman-born filmmaker based in Los Angeles, is making waves on the international film festival circuit with his latest short film ‘Dream Door’.
The film, which has garnered multiple awards and accolades, is a moving exploration of themes such as isolation, poverty, and the yearning for security.
Written and directed by Raman, ‘Dream Door’ is a Tamil short film that narrates the story of a young boy’s longing for a door for his tiny house to feel safe when alone. The film features rising talents Shakti Rithvik and Mohammed Asif Hameed and showcases the cinematography of Nishant Arya and the music composition of Meghana Tadanki.
Having written over ten short films, ‘Dream Door’ is part of Rishav’s thesis at the New York Film Academy.
The film has recently won recognition in the festival circuit, winning ‘Best Indian Short Film’ at the Poombukar International Film Festival and securing the titles of ‘Best Student Film’ and ‘Best Director’ at the Triloka Filmfare Awards. It has also earned a place as a semi-finalist at the prestigious Flickers’ Rhode Island International Film Festival, an Oscar-qualifying event held in New York.
With the short film set to release on YouTube soon, Rishav has his creative calendar packed with new projects. He has written two feature screenplays and two novels, which are currently in development for potential sale to production and publishing companies.
Reflecting on his journey so far during an interview with Shoutout LA, a leading industry journal in Los Angeles, Rishav states: “I am pleased with the learning and improvement I have experienced over the past few years. There is, of course, a long way to go, but I am excited and motivated for what lies ahead.”
Looking to the future, he plans to continue creating short films as he prepares to fully dedicate himself to writing and directing. His ambition and dedication to the craft of filmmaking are evident in his recent successes and ongoing projects.
