Muscat – OQ Group held a seminar dedicated to emergency management for the energy sector in Oman in collaboration with National Emergency Management Centre on Wednesday. It aimed to explore the challenges associated with risk management, devise effective prevention strategies and establish robust response mechanisms.
The seminar attracted a diverse group of specialists in emergency management from various sectors, including representatives from government and private institutions.
Discussions centred on two key areas. The first session focused on evaluating and managing risks within the energy sector, highlighting the sector’s connection to the national risk register and emergency management strategies. The importance of integrating these strategies with the national system was emphasised to ensure comprehensive preparedness.
The second session delved into the role of the medical response sector in addressing injuries specific to the oil and gas industries and managing hazardous materials. The discussions underscored the need for effective responses to sector-specific accidents and the critical role of coordinated efforts in mitigating such incidents.
Ali bin Mohammed al Lawati, Chief Executive for People, Technology and Culture at OQ, informed that the seminar’s primary goal was to enhance preparedness and coordination for emergencies within the energy sector. He stressed the importance of taking adequate precautions and improving collaboration with the National Emergency Management Centre and other relevant entities.
The seminar also focused on assessing risks, examining major accidents and developing joint mechanisms for coordination. These efforts are aimed at ensuring continuity and resilience of essential energy sector operations.
