Muscat – Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology (MTCIT) has issued a safety alert for jet ski and recreational marine unit operators to ensure a secure environment for all those who use these facilities.
The ministry’s alert aims to foster a safer environment for recreational marine activities and safeguard the well-being of all involved.
In a statement, MTCIT said, ‘The ministry underscores the importance of maintaining safety standards for both operators and users. Riding jet skis and other marine entertainment units is prohibited after sunset to enhance safety. Additionally, all operators must ensure that life jackets are provided for all users to prevent drowning incidents.’
To prevent overcrowding and ensure safety, no more than eight jet skis or similar units are allowed at a single location.
Operators are required to oversee the use of marine recreational units to mitigate risky behaviour and hazardous conditions.
A reliable means of communication must be available for emergencies, and users should remain within designated areas to avoid potential dangers. Operators must also have a rescue crew and first aid kit available at all times.
‘Checking weather conditions in advance is essential to ensure safety, and water bikes or boats designated for emergencies should be readily available.’
Renting water bikes and marine recreational units to individuals under the age of 16 unless accompanied by an adult is prohibited.
