Muscat – The total cumulative investment in Salalah Free Zone has surpassed RO4.6bn as of June 2024, with the zone attracting over RO68mn in new investments during the first half of the year, according to the CEO of Salalah Free Zone.
In a statement to Oman News Agency, Dr Ali bin Mohammed Tabuk, CEO of Salalah Free Zone, noted that 143 companies are currently operating in the zone, with 64 projects already in operation. Industrial projects account for 57% of the total, logistics projects make up 15%, and commercial projects comprise 28%.
Dr Tabuk highlighted that 13 new projects were launched in the first six months of 2024. These include initiatives in frankincense derivative production, packaging, air conditioning manufacturing, textile production, and the import-export and repackaging of potassium fertilisers, among other activities.
As a subsidiary of the Asyad Group, Salalah Free Zone plays a crucial role in supporting the local and national economy, attracting investments across various vital sectors. Dr Tabuk emphasised that the zone’s appeal to investors is driven by its numerous incentives, strategic location, and competitive advantages. Its proximity to key markets in the Middle East, the Indian subcontinent, and East Africa reduces both time and costs for businesses operating in the zone.
Dr Tabuk explained that the zone hosts a diverse range of projects, from petrochemical and mineral processing, including limestone and gypsum, to the growing food and pharmaceutical sectors.
Additionally, the logistics, warehousing, and import-export activities benefit from the zone’s location near the Port of Salalah, a key regional hub. Manufacturing and assembly operations, ranging from auto spare parts to consumer goods, also thrive within the zone.
To support investors and businesses, the Salalah Free Zone offers a range of services, including land, warehouse, and office leasing. The zone also provides ‘one-stop’ services to simplify procedures such as permit issuance, visas, investor registration, and license applications. These services, available through the Invest Easy system, include the issuance of Oman Chamber of Commerce and Industry (OCCI) cards, enhancing the overall business environment in the Dhofar region.
In collaboration with other free and economic zones under Asyad Group, Salalah Free Zone plays a pivotal role in attracting foreign direct investment. The zone offers an ideal platform for businesses to expand into international markets, supported by Asyad’s comprehensive logistics solutions.
These solutions cover all aspects of the supply chain, including warehousing services and shipping lines, ensuring the smooth and secure transport of goods from Omani ports to global markets. The Salalah Free Zone’s strategic location also boosts port-related logistics activities and last-mile delivery services, further meeting customer needs efficiently.
