Muscat – Sur Marine Sports Festival – one of the executive programmes of Sur as the Arab Tourism Capital 2024 – came to an end on Saturday under the patronage of Dr Rashid bin Mohammed al Ghailani, a member of the State Council.

Organised by the Ministry of Heritage and Tourism (MHT), in collaboration with the Office of the Governor of South Sharqiyah and various governmental and private entities, ended with swimming and traditional boat races, officials informed.

Mohammed bin Salem al Alawi won the swimming competition for children aged 10-15 years, followed by Abdullah bin Mohammed al Araimi in the second place and Aman Amin in the third.

In the adult category, for participants aged 16 years and above, Nasser bin Saif al Kindi came first followed by Mohammed bin Ahmed al Ghailani   in the second and Khalid bin Khalfan al Jahdhami in the third place.

The festival featured a range of activities including sports events, races, and sailing experiences, alongside the Oman Sailing Championship. A fan area was set up, featuring an exhibition of local products and activities aimed at enhancing community involvement.

The festival highlighted the tourism value of the wilayat of Sur and South Sharqiyah governorate, showcasing its historical role as a centre of cultural and civilisational significance.
