Muscat – More than 1,300 tourists have visited the Arabian Oryx Reserve in the wilayat of Haima, Al Wusta governorate since the beginning of 2024, significantly contributing to Oman’s ecotourism.
Sultan bin Mohammed al Balushi, Director of the Arabian Oryx Department, highlighted that the reserve serves as a vital centre for wildlife conservation and a driver of economic development. It promotes ecotourism and helps visitors connect with Oman’s natural history.
The reserve is undertaking several projects, including the planting of 80,000 wild trees to increase vegetation cover and rehabilitate natural habitats, aiming to sustain local ecosystems. Infrastructure improvements are also underway to enhance the reserve’s appeal.
Covering 2,824sqkm, the reserve is home to approximately 900 Arabian oryx, 1,240 sand gazelles, and 160 Arabian gazelles. It also hosts Nubian ibex, sand foxes, wild rabbits, and honey badgers, enriching the visitor experience and deepening their understanding of Oman’s natural heritage.
