17 Jul 2024 Oman Flour Mills opens registration for farmers to buy wheat

Muscat – Oman Flour Mills (OFM) – in coordination with Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Water Resources – has announced the opening of registration for interested farmers to sell their 2024/2025 season wheat harvest.

Open to farmers from all governorates, the move is aimed at empowering them to avail the wheat purchase programme subsidy. The registration process will continue till October 31, 2024 via www.omanibur.com

The announcement is in line with OFM’s efforts to enhance food security and encourage Omani farmers to grow wheat.

OFM purcha-ses wheat harvest from local farmers annually to contribute to boosting wheat production and introduce Omani wheat to local and regional markets.

OFM urged farmers to adhere to the quality standards in producing and harvesting their crop. The company supports farmers by purchasing different varieties of Omani wheat through the wheat purchase subsidy programme in cooperation with the ministry, in order to expand cultivation of wheat locally, as well as contribute to developing Omani wheat products.

OFM purchased 10,000 tonn-es of wheat in 2024, recording a growth of 100% compared to 2023. Wheat  was purchased from 95 farmers, compared to 65 in 2023 – up 45% – reflecting the company’s contribution to promoting wheat cultivation in the sultanate as part of its strategy to boost food security.

‘The increase in the quantity of local wheat sold to OFM this season reflects the level of demand for Omani wheat, which is highly accepted by consumers in local and regional markets due to its high quality,’ the company stated following the 2023-2024 harvest season.
