CPA cracks down on illegal jelly and slime sales in Dhahirah

14 Jul 2024 By

Muscat – In a joint operation with the Royal Oman Police, the Consumer Protection Authority (CPA) in Dhahirah governorate has successfully apprehended an expatriate worker involved in trading and selling banned jelly and slime toys within local markets.

The CPA launched the campaign following a consumer report highlighting the sale of prohibited jelly and slime to children in the governorate’s markets.

Subsequent investigations by law enforcement confirmed the validity of these reports. Authorities traced the vehicle used by the worker to distribute these banned toys to various shops across the governorate.

This action constitutes a violation of Oman’s Consumer Protection Law, its executive regulations, and Decision No 301/2021, which strictly prohibits the sale of jelly and slime toys without the requisite GS Certificate or approvals from relevant authorities, CPA stated.

Law enforcement identified the specific locations where these toys were being sold, resulting in the confiscation of a total of 1,664 banned items from both the worker and implicated shops. Measures were promptly taken to dispose of these prohibited goods. Additionally, an administrative fine of OR500 was imposed, with further legal actions underway against the offenders.

CPA reaffirms its unwavering commitment to monitoring Oman’s markets, ensuring they remain free from commercial fraud and practices that compromise consumer rights and safety. The Authority urges the public to continue cooperating by promptly reporting any observed violations, contributing to the maintenance of a healthy and safe market environment.
