Muscat – The Sultanate of Oman and the Kingdom of Belgium celebrated the 46th anniversary of bilateral and diplomatic relations on Sunday at Royal Opera House Muscat.

Ties have witnessed remarkable growth and economic and investment partnerships, including in the Duqm Port project.

On the occasion, H E Rua bint Issa al Zadjali, Ambassador of Oman to Belgium, said relations between the two countries are built on solid foundations and values, and have witnessed remarkable development, especially in economic relations and investment partnerships between the two sides.

In a speech, H E Rua stressed Oman’s eagerness to consolidate relations with Belgium, enhance aspects of bilateral cooperation, and complete agreements supporting friendly relations and partnership between the two countries in a manner that contributes to the growth of mutual benefits and promotion of common interests.

On his part, H E Pascal Grégoire, Ambassador of Belgium to Oman, praised the relations between the two friendly countries, noting that the visit of King Philippe Leopold Louis Marie, King of the Belgians, to the sultanate in February 2022 witnessed the opening of Duqm Port, a joint project between the Government of Oman and the Port of Antwerp.

The volume of trade exchange between Oman and Belgium at the end of 2023 exceeded RO106mn; the volume of Omani exports to Belgium totalled about RO55mn, while Belgian imports to Oman was valued at RO51mn.

Several visual presentations were made at the ceremony on Sunday focused on investment opportunities and cooperation between the two sides in numerous big and promising projects.

During the ceremony, Omani and Belgian operatic pieces were played by the Opera Ballet Vlaanderen and Omani artists to highlight the role of music as a tool for communication between peoples.

The ceremony was attended by several ministers, undersecretaries, members of State Council and Majlis A’Shura, CEOs and businessmen from both sides.
