4 Jun 2024 MCSY announces 244 activities for 2024 Summer Sports Programme

Muscat – Ministry of Culture, Sports and Youth (MCSY) announced details of its 2024 Summer Sports Programme on Tuesday, designed to engage the nation’s youth in productive sports activities throughout the summer vacation.

The programme aims to develop their talents and shape their characters to play vital roles in the country’s ongoing development. Since its inception in 2006, the Summer Sports Programme has been a key feature of MCSY’s offerings during the summer months. The 2024 edition is set to include 244 events across 115 training centres, 77 open sports days, 33 sports caravans, and 19 volunteer initiatives.

The events will take place in sports complexes, clubs and venues throughout the sultanate, involving partnerships with sports clubs, Omani Women’s Associations, and civil society teams.

Samira al Shukaili, Director of Sports Activities Department and Head of the programme’s main committee, highlighted its new approach, which introduces innovative activities aimed at enhancing participants’ leisure time with health and social benefits. “This year’s programme not only aims to keep the youth engaged during their holidays but also introduce them to a lifestyle that safeguards against modern-day health issues and promotes overall well-being,” Samira explained.

The programme’s agenda is divided into four segments – sports centres offering training under professional guidance, open sports days for public enjoyment, sports caravans in remote areas, and volunteer initiatives that emphasise physical activities and environmental conservation.
