Tehran, Iran – The interim Iranian president Mohammad Mokhber told Oman’s Foreign Minister H E Sayyid Badr bin Hamad al Busaidi on Monday that the Tehran-Muscat relations will continue as in the past.

In a meeting with the Omani delegation in Tehran, Iranian caretaker President emphasised that his country’s policy of developing relations with Oman will continue, Iran’s Mehr News Agency reported.

Mokhber thanked Oman for its messages of condolence and solidarity following the martyrdom of President Ebrahim Raeisi and his accompanying delegation in the last week’s tragic helicopter crash.

He said that the policy of Iran and its late president Raeisi to develop full-fledged cooperation with Oman will continue.

Alluding to the historical and brotherly relations between Iran and Oman, Mokhber said, “There are untapped capabilities and potential in the two countries, especially in the economic field, and if they are utilised, our economic relations will gain momentum.”

Deepening relations

Referring to the meeting with H E Sayyid Badr, Iran’s acting minister of foreign affairs Ali Bagheri Kani stated that the policy of strengthening and deepening relations with neighbours will continue.

Bagheri Kani wrote on the social network ‘X’ about his meeting with H E Sayyid Badr, “We received the message of friendship, brotherhood and good neighbourliness from the high-ranking officials of the Sultanate of Oman.”

During a press conference, both the foreign ministers stressed on the pursuit of sending urgent humanitarian aid to the people of Gaza and intensifying political pressure against the Israel to stop the genocide.

“My visit is to convey the brotherly feelings and solidarity we have with Iran during this tragic time,” H E Sayyid Badr was quoted by Tehran Times.

He further elaborated on the discussions with Iran’s acting Foreign Minister, highlighting the continuation of consultations between Iran and Oman on various bilateral and regional issues, with a particular focus on Palestine.

“Our brothers in Palestine are enduring severe oppression, and significant efforts are being made to alleviate their suffering. Our mutual goal is the establishment of an independent Palestinian state,” he asserted.

Bagheri Kani, on his part, expressed gratitude towards Oman for its supportive gestures during the period of mourning.
