27 May 2024 Oman condemns Israeli bombing of Rafah's civilians

Muscat – The Sultanate of Oman expressed its strong condemnation and rejection of the persistent Israeli aggression in the Gaza Strip, and the recent targeting of a camp housing displaced people in Rafah.

Israeli forces bombed a tent camp housing displaced people in a designated safe zone in Rafah on Sunday, killing 45 Palestinians, most of them women and children. The attack has triggered an international outcry, leading to calls for a ceasefire.

In a statement issued by the Foreign Ministry on Monday, Oman pointed out that the heinous acts being committed by the occupying state require deterrent international intervention.

‘It is high time that the global community imposed sanctions on Israel due to the fact that its criminal practices constitute a clear violation of international law, contravene international humanitarian law and violate values of human dignity,’” stressed Oman in its statement.

The attack on the camp in Tal as-Sultan came after Israeli forces bombed shelters housing displaced Palestinians in other areas, including Jabalia, Nuseirat and Gaza City, killing at least 160 others, according to Palestinian officials.
