27 May 2024 MAFWR empowers rural women through poultry farming initiative

Muscat – The Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Water Resources (MAFWR) has initiated a programme for rural women in the wilayat of Ibri, Dhahirah governorate, to help them attain self-sufficiency through poultry farming.

An official from MAFWR referred to a recent workshop titled ‘Poultry Raising and Chick Production’, which had been designed to uplift and market the agricultural products of rural women in Ibri.

The workshop provided participants with critical insights into hatching processes and their significance in poultry farming, under the guidance of Yasmine al Majarifi, an animal production specialist.

Yasmine explained the intricacies of artificial hatching, including the use of various hatching machines and maintenance of optimal conditions for artificial hatching.

Participants also discussed sanitary practices for handling eggs and shared experiences to enhance their understanding and skills in poultry management.

Under the initiative, essential tools and equipment such as refrigerators, hatching devices and packaging machines were distributed to 32 beneficiaries in February this year, empowering them to effectively manage and expand their agricultural projects.

Pact to support livestock breeders

The Directorate General of Agriculture, Fisheries and Water Resources in North Batinah governorate signed an agreement on last week with Oman Flour Mills to support livestock breeders in the wilayat of Liwa.

Abdullah bin Mohammed al Hadabi, Director General of Agriculture, Fisheries and Water Resources in North Batinah, explained that this agreement comes within the framework of supporting livestock projects in the governorate, focusing on breeders from ‘productive’ families in order to enhance the success of their projects.

The agreement paves the way for a livestock products exhibition with 12 stalls dedicated to food safety and quality, veterinary clinics and laboratories, rural women’s products and feed company products.
