Muscat – In a move to boost tourism and provide employment opportunities, the North Sharqiyah governorate has taken a new initiative to involve jobseekers in the management and operation of parks and recreational areas in Wadi Bani Khalid.
According to a statement issued on Tuesday, this initiative seeks to leverage the natural appeal of Wadi Bani Khalid, a famous tourist destination located 203km from Muscat, which is celebrated for its perennial flow and scenic beauty.
According to the Ministry of Heritage and Tourism (MHT), 25,447 visitors turned out at Wadi Bani Khalid during the Eid holiday, underscoring the area’s popularity and potential for tourism-driven economic growth.
The announcement was made during a meeting chaired by Mahmoud bin Yahya al Zuhaili, Governor of North Sharqiyah. The meeting also addressed various issues including the management of the recent inclement weather caused by a low-pressure system, and reviewed development and service-related matters across the governorate.
Furthermore, the effectiveness of ongoing government projects was discussed to ensure proper monitoring and implementation. Environmental concerns also found priority during the deliberations.
The council discussed the adverse effects of animal pens along wadi paths. The issue of animals straying onto roads, posing risks and disruptions, was identified as an important area needing immediate resolution.
Additionally, updates on the development programme were provided by walis and government entities, reflecting on previous meetings.
The council also examined the minutes and annual plans of permanent committees to ensure alignment with the governorate’s strategic goals.
The meeting concluded with the finalisation of recommendations and forwarding pertinent topics to relevant authorities for further evaluation and action.
