Muscat – The Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (TRA) has initiated a public consultation on the provisions governing the operation of Earth Stations located on board Vessels (ESVs) in fixed-satellite service.

This review encompasses frequency bands for both uplink (5925-6425 MHz and 14-14.5 GHz) and downlink (3700-4200 MHz and 10.7-12.75 GHz), with the aim of aligning with international standards and meeting the demands of the telecommunications market in Oman.

The objectives of this consultation are multifaceted. Firstly, it seeks to encourage research and development in the telecommunications sector. Secondly, it aims to create a regulatory environment that is flexible and conducive to investment, thus attracting stakeholders to the telecommunications market. Furthermore, the consultation aims to ensure the efficient management of natural and national resources, while also enabling investment in innovative technologies and services.

The main pillars of this consultation revolve around keeping pace with rapid technological advancements in radio communication, enhancing the quality of communication services provided within Oman, and regularly updating regulatory, technical, and operational provisions to adapt to changing needs.

Stakeholders are invited to submit their feedback and suggestions by April 11, 2024, marking an important milestone in shaping the telecommunications landscape in Oman.
