Muscat – To address the ongoing shortage of blood and cultivate the culture of blood donation, the Ministry of Health, in collaboration with Oman Blood Donor Team, is holding its initiative called Waai al Hayat – or Life Awareness – this Ramadan.

Ahmed bin Hamad al Kharousi, Supervisor of Oman Blood Donor Team and the initiative, told Muscat Daily, that Oman Hereditary Blood Disorders Association and his team visited Gulf Collage on Monday.

The visit aimed to raise awareness on blood donation and address the current shortage in blood banks.

The visiting team also spoke on hereditary blood disorders.

Waai al Hayat has enlisted 25 volunteers from various governorates. Its core activities include organising workshops in colleges, schools and clubs throughout the sultanate.

According to Kharousi, such initiatives are crucial for motivating individuals to donate blood and foster a culture of mutual support within society.

He informed that Central Blood Bank in Bausher requires more than 2,700 blood and 260 platelet donors this Ramadan.

In April, the team will organise another campaign on blood donation awareness in the wilayat of Khabourah.

“All blood banks across the sultanate require a continuous supply of blood due to various ongoing factors, including surgeries, treatment of cancer and road accidents,” he said, urging the community to actively participate in the initiative’s workshops and donation drives to save lives, especially during Ramadan.
