Muscat – The Omani Astronomical Society has announced that the spring equinox for the year 2024 will take place tomorrow, on Wednesday, March 20, marking the beginning of the spring season astronomically.

Ibrahim bin Muhammad al Mahrouqi, Vice President of the Omani Astronomical Society, explained that the equinox will occur at 07:06am in the Sultanate of Oman. During this moment, the sun will rise directly on the equator, marking the onset of spring in the Muscat governorate.

 Al Mahrouqi explained that the phenomenon of the vernal equinox is one of four other annual astronomical phenomena that determine the beginning of the seasons throughout the year, which are the summer solstice, the autumnal equinox, and the winter solstice. At the spring and autumn equinoxes, day and night are equal. On the summer solstice, the day lengthens and the night shortens, and on the winter solstice, the night lengthens and the day shortens.These differences are due to two main factors: the sun’s inclination from the equator and geographical latitude.

Looking forward, the phenomenon of the summer solstice is anticipated to occur on June 21.
