Muscat – The Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology has announced the commencement of registrations for ‘SAS 48 Hackathon for Green Tech’, open till March 31. 

The initiative underscores the ministry’s commitment to promoting green technology and environmental sustainability across various sectors.

According to a ministry official, the hackathon – scheduled for early May – aims to mobilise university students, jobseekers, employees and specialists from diverse fields, including environment, renewable energy, logistics, agriculture, food, programming, application development and more. 

The event is structured to encourage innovation, offering RO8,000 in prizes to spur creativity and entrepreneurial spirit in the green technology domain.

Its primary objective is to elevate public awareness about green technology’s potential, create opportunities within this burgeoning sector, and encourage the development of startups that can contribute to addressing environmental challenges, the ministry official said.  

Participants will be tasked with devising practical solutions leveraging green technology to enhance sustainability in logistics, agriculture, food production, renewable energy and related fields.

The ministry official urged participants to engage deeply with environmental issues, researching and developing green technology solutions that can effectively mitigate these challenges. The event is seen as a platform for fostering a deeper understanding of environmental sustainability and encouraging innovative approaches to solving critical environmental problems.
