Muscat – The State Council, under the leadership of Deputy Chairman Salem Muslim ali Qatan, convened on Tuesday to deliberate on a draft law aimed at regulating the trade of wildlife. 

The legislation, forwarded by the Council of Ministers, underscores Oman’s commitment to biodiversity conservation, a principle observed since the march of the renaissance.

During the session, Dr Muhammad bin Saeed al Hajri, Chairman of Social and Cultural Committee of the State Council, articulated the sultanate’s long-standing dedication to preserving its rich biodiversity. He highlighted the nation’s diverse wildlife, including species at risk of extinction, underscoring the draft law’s objective to safeguard these precious resources.

Hajri emphasised the significance of the proposed legislation, noting its critical role at local and international levels. He pointed out that the law aims not only to conserve biodiversity but also to enhance Oman’s legal framework related to wildlife trade. It is expected to bolster the sultanate’s image, showcasing its commitment to environmental preservation and regulatory excellence in wildlife management.
