Muscat – H H Sayyid Theyazin bin Haitham al Said will preside over the official opening of the FIH Hockey5s World Cup on Tuesday.

The opening ceremony will be held at the sales centre of Sustainable City in the wilayat of Muttrah and attended by several Royal family members, ministers, undersecretaries and Tayyab Ikram, President of International Hockey Federation.

Ending on January 31, 32 national teams – 16 men’s and 16 wo-men’s teams – will take part. 

Men’s national teams from the Netherlands, Pakistan, Poland, Nigeria, Australia, New Zealand, Thailand, Kenya, India, Egypt, Switzerland, Jamaica, Malaysia, the USA and Fiji, besides Oman will participate.

The women’s national teams participating are from the Netherlands, Malaysia, Fiji, Australia, South Africa, Zambia, Ukraine, India, the USA, Poland, Namibia, New Zealand, Paraguay, Thailand, Uruguay and Oman.

The matches will be held in the new Oman Hockey Stadium in  Amerat. It includes two main fields and several training areas, in addition to other facilities.

The stadium has been built to International Hockey Federation specifications and has 5,000 seats, which can be removed and reused in other stadiums.
