Muscat – Muscat is set to host the prestigious FIH Hockey Olympic Qualifiers from January 15 to 21 with eight teams vying for three coveted spots in the Paris 2024 Summer Games.

At a press briefing, Tayyab Ikram, President of International Hockey Federation (FIH), described the qualifiers as an important event for teams aspiring to make their Olympic dream a reality.  He commended the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Youth and Oman Hockey Federation for their exceptional support and preparations.

The newly inaugurated Oman Hockey Complex in Amerat will serve as the battleground for the participating teams from Germany, New Zealand, Canada, Chile, England, Malaysia, Pakistan and China.

Oman stepped up to host the qualifiers following FIH’s decision to relocate the event from Pakistan due to administrative concerns.

The qualifiers begin on Monday with four matches played on the day – Germany and Canada meet at 2 pm, followed by matches between New Zealand and Chile, Malaysia and China, and England and Pakistan.

Matches are scheduled all days – barring two rest days on Wednesday and Friday – with teams bracing for the final showdown on January 20 and 21.

Hockey qualifiers for the Paris Games will be held simultaneously in India and Spain.

Regarding readiness of Oman Hockey Complex, Marwan bin Juma al Juma, Chairman of Board of Directors of Oman Hockey Federation, said it will be a showcase for local, Arab, Asian and international tournaments.

Meeting FIH’s rigorous international standards, the state-of-the-art facility in Amerat will also be the venue of the FIH Hockey5s World Cup Oman 2024 being held from January 24 to 31.

With over 5,000 removable seats, the complex is a testament to Oman’s commitment to hosting world-class sporting events.
