Muscat – In efforts to stimulate winter tourism and support domestic tourism, an event called Sohar Nights Winter Camp will be held from January 10 to 14. It has been organised by the Ministry of Heritage and Tourism (MHT).
An official at MHT said, “The winter season makes North Batinah the perfect destination for outdoor activities and the governorate is ready to receive a large number of visitors.”
He informed that in the winter season – October to April – North Batinah receives a large number of visitors, both domestic and international. “The desert in the governorate is one of the most beautiful in Oman, especially in the winter season. It is also one of the most popular destinations for camel riding, desert crossings and camping.”
The winter camp will be held in the Al Rifaa area of Sohar and will include a wide array of activities, including theatre performances, stalls displaying camping equipment and food trucks. Events at the camp will be held from 4:30pm to 12pm.
“The camp will include cultural, entertainment and shopping activities, in addition to competitions. Many stalls have been allocated to families engaged in cottage industries.”
The official informed that the event aims to create a cultural and recreational space for citizens and residents, in addition to highlighting the tourism potential of Sohar. “The winter camp also aims to promote the Omani cottage industry in Sohar and market its products, while spreading the culture of camping,” he added.
