Muscat – In a move to bolster employment efforts, the Majlis A’Shura Office has announced a decision to form a temporary committee dedicated to addressing jobseekers’ issues.
The decision was made during a meeting led by H E Khalid Hilal al Maawali, Chairman of Majlis A’Shura, last week. This initiative underscores the shura’s commitment to resolving the challenges faced by jobseekers in the sultanate.
The meeting also examined a study on the future of the frankincense tree in Dhofar governorate and discussed other vital topics, including a report on the youth parliamentarians’ training programme.
To boost employment, the Ministry of Labour (MoL) launched an app called ‘Maak’ (‘With you’) in 2023. This digital platform is designed to connect jobseekers and employers. Maak currently offers over 11 electronic services for jobseekers, representing a significant step towards digitalising employment services.
MoL has reported notable progress in the employment sector, achieving 87% of its target for the third quarter of 2023 in both government and private sectors. This period saw the creation of 30,464 job opportunities, with an additional 26,689 individuals with prior work experience being employed, bringing the total to 57,153.
The ministry has reaffirmed its dedication to employment as a cornerstone of the national economy. Formation of this committee, besides the launch of ‘Maak’, illustrates a proactive approach by the government in tackling employment challenges and supporting jobseekers.
