Muscat – A newly constructed integrated hockey complex is going to host the will host the FIH Hockey5s World Cup in the run-up to the Summer Olympics to be held in Paris from July this year.
The Hockey Oman, which was handed over to the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Youth, will host the matches from January 15 to 21 for eight international teams competing for the three qualifying tickets.
The new stadium will also hold the Futsal Hockey World Cup ‘Oman 2024’ from January 24 to 31.
The integrated complex includes two stadiums designed according to the international specifications and standards as proposed by the International Hockey Federation, separate training fields and other facilities such as office areas, changing rooms, broadcast platform and VIPs boxes.
The spectator stands can accommodate more than 5,000 seats during the tournament period, and they can be removed and used in other stadiums.
H E Basil bin Ahmed al Rawas, Undersecretary for Sports and Youth in the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Youth, said that this new project will serve Oman to hold more hockey competitions and tournaments. It is expected that the services will be extended to hold hockey events at the regional and international levels.
The project was completed within five months from the day its construction began.
