Muscat – Four people were imprisoned for six months, fined RO1,000, and faced confiscation of seized items for hunting and killing an Arabian gazelle in Dhofar governorate.

In a statement issued by Environment Authority (EA) said, ‘The Court of Appeal in Salalah issued a ruling convicting the defendants of the misdemeanor of hunting and killing an Arabian gazelle in Dhofar governorate. The court decreed that all four defendants should face six months of imprisonment, a fine of RO1,000, and the confiscation of seized items.’

The second accused was convicted of a misdemeanor related to hunting birds and was sentenced to three months in prison, and a misdemeanor of possessing conventional weapons without a license from the competent authorities, and was punished with one month in prison, with the penalties being the most severe, it added.

The Environment Agency calls on everyone to preserve wildlife and avoid actions that may lead to legal accountability.
