Muscat – Muscat Dialogue Sessions 2023 – a three-day event themed ‘Towards a Sustainable and Prosperous Future’ – kicked off on Monday focusing on youth participation in civic development in Muscat governorate.

Inaugurated by Sayyid Saud bin Hilal al Busaidi, Governor of Muscat, the sessions aim to incorporate diverse social groups in determining and implementing priority projects.

In his opening remarks, Busaidi emphasised the crucial role of the youth as the nation’s developmental cornerstone. “Youth are the wealth of the nation and its primary engine towards development and prosperity.”

He highlighted the governorate’s commitment to engaging young voices in development plans, and recognising their needs, interests and aspirations. “These sessions mark a continuation of previous initiatives to empower Omani youth, encouraging their innovative ideas and proposals.”

The agenda of these sessions covers a variety of topics, including the humanisation of cities, the potential of transforming entertainment into an industry, exploring investment opportunities in Muscat governorate, and the significance of environmental volunteerism, innovation and technology.

The first session, led by Dr Hanan bint Amer al Jabriya from the Ministry of Housing and Urban Planning, and moderated by Shabib al Mamari, Director General of National Travel Operator – Visit Oman, delved into urban planning, public spaces and the ‘Vibrant Public Spaces’ initiative.

Hanan discussed the initiative’s focus on creating lively, sustainable public spaces in residential areas, contributing to economic diversification and enhancing quality of city life.

The second session, themed ‘Environmental Volunteering’, featuring Manar bint Abdullah al Riyami, Quality Specialist at Environment Authority, was moderated by Ibrahim al Salmi, Assistant Vice-President of Corporate Communications, Ominvest Group.

Manar presented an overview of national environmental volunteering goals, analysing the current status and outlining successful national and regional experiences in this field.

Muscat Dialogue Sessions 2023 will continue to explore investment opportunities, technology and innovation on its second day, while the final day will be dedicated to reviewing key outcomes and recommendations.

This initiative demonstrates Muscat governorate’s forward-thinking approach, leveraging the dynamism and creativity of its youth to shape a brighter, sustainable future.
