Muscat – His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik and President Dr Frank-Walter Steinmeier of the Federal Republic of Germany held an official session of talks at Al Alam Palace on Tuesday.
The German President began an official visit to the sultanate on Monday.
At the outset of the session, His Majesty the Sultan emphasised his welcome to President Steinmeier, wishing him and his accompanying delegation a pleasant stay.
On his turn, the German President expressed his gratitude and appreciation to His Majesty the Sultan for the warm welcome and hospitality.
The session reviewed bilateral relations and ways of promoting these in various spheres to serve the joint interests.
The two leaders exchanged views on regional and international developments, as well as matters of common interests.
The official session of talks was attended from the Omani side by Sayyid Fahd bin Mahmoud al Said, Deputy Prime Minister for the Council of Ministers, Sayyid Asaad bin Tarik al Said, Deputy Prime Minister for International Relations and Cooperation Affairs and Personal Representative of His Majesty the Sultan, Sayyid Khalid bin Hilal al Busaidi, Minister of Diwan of Royal Court, Gen Sultan bin Mohammed al Nu’mani, Minister of Royal Office, Sayyid Hamoud bin Faisal al Busaidi, Minister of Interior, Sayyid Badr bin Hamad al Busaidi, Foreign Minister, Sultan bin Salim al Habsi, Minister of Finance, Dr Hamad bin Said al Oufi, Head of Private Office, Said bin Hamood al Mawali, Minister of Transport, Communications and Information Technology and Head of the Mission of Honour, and Maitha bint Saif al Mahrouqi, Ambassador of Oman to Germany.
After that, His Majesty the Sultan and the German President held a closed-door session.
Prior to the official talks, the German President was accorded an official reception ceremony on Tuesday.
A squadron of cavalry lined the two sides of the road to the gate of Al Alam Palace upon arrival of President Steinmeier’s motorcade to welcome him.
The Royal Guard of Oman band played a welcome tune, to the accompaniment of trumpets, as the motorcade entered the courtyard of Al Alam Palace.
His Majesty the Sultan accompanied the German President to the Dais of Honour where the national anthem of Germany was played, while the artillery fired a 21-gun salute for the guest.
Then, His Majesty the Sultan shook hands with members of the official delegation accompanying President Steinmeier, wishing them a pleasant stay.
On his turn, the guest shook hands with some members of the Royal Family, chairmen of the State Council and Majlis A’Shura, ministers and Commander of Sultan’s Armed Forces.
After that, His Majesty the Sultan and the guest proceeded to the palace hall for coffee.
President Steinmeier was accompanied by an official delegation comprising Dr Tobias Lindner, Minister of State in the Foreign Ministry of the Federal Republic of Germany, Dirk Lölke, Ambassador of Germany to Oman, Wolfgang Silbermann, Head of Foreign Policy Department in the Office of the Federal President, and several German officials.
