Muscat – The Foreign Ministry of Oman on Monday ran a unique market for charity, in cooperation with accredited embassies in the sultanate.
The ministry, represented by the Diplomatic Club, organised the first Diplomatic Charity Market with the slogan ‘be the reason for their joy’ to raise support for the Al Rahma Association for Motherhood and Childhood.
The opening of the charity market, the first of its kind in Oman, was sponsored by H E Khalid al Muslahi, Undersecretary for Administrative and Financial Affairs, in the Foreign Ministry.
“The market was held to collect donations for Rahma Association and highlight solidarity between individuals and institutions,” said Doaa bint Abdullah al Amriya, a member of the Diplomatic Club. “It also sought to support families involved in cottage industry, and medium and small entrepreneurs.”
Sana bint Abdul Rahman al Khanjariya, Chairperson of the Board of Directors of Al Rahma, said that the collection from the charitable market would be allocated to finance some of the programmes run by the association to help the needy.
She named Fak Karba initiative in particular for their next mission from this charity.
The event saw a large turnout from the embassies of Arab and other friendly countries, which took the opportunity to showcase their culture, tradition and products. Each embassy was accorded a stall to exhibit its home products and handicrafts.
