Royal Hospital conducts complex catheterization operation

20 Nov 2023

Muscat – A specialised medical team from the National Heart Centre at the Royal Hospital succeeded in performing a complex and rare interventional catheterization operation for a 70-year-old patient suffering congenital deformities in the aortic valve.

The operation was carried out after the deformities caused severe narrowing of the valve opening, coupled with the development of extreme cardiomyopathy, posing challenges that made it impossible to resolve the issue through ordinary surgical procedures.

The success of the operation constitutes a new medical and scholarly accomplishment credited to the health sector in the Sultanate of Oman.

The operation was broadcast live, with direct TV connection with a conference held in Dubai by the Gulf Intervention Society for cardiovascular catheterization.
