Ahmedabad, India – The International Cricket Council (ICC) World Cup team of the tournament was dominated by finalists India and champions Australia.
The lineup comprised six Indian players, including the tournament’s leading run-scorer, Virat Kohli, who earned the prestigious title of player of the tournament. Captain Rohit Sharma, KL Rahul, Ravindra Jadeja, Jasprit Bumrah, and Mohammed Shami rounded out India’s representation in the team.
Rohit, setting a formidable tone at the top of the order, amassed 597 runs, second only to his teammate Kohli. His impact extended beyond sheer numbers, boasting a striking strike rate of 125.94, the highest among top-four batters in the competition.
The standout performer, Shami, emerged as the leading wicket-taker despite sitting out the initial four matches. His exceptional performance yielded an incredible 24 wickets at a remarkable average of 10.70 and an economy rate of 5.26.
Champions Australia had two representatives in the team: the versatile all-rounder Glenn Maxwell and the skillful spinner Adam Zampa. Maxwell showcased his prowess with a double century against Afghanistan and a blistering 40-ball hundred against the Netherlands, contributing significantly to Australia’s historic sixth title win.
