Muscat – The Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (TRA) published, through its website and digital platforms, the semi-annual report (January – June 2023) on indicators of the telecommunications and postal sectors in the Sultanate of Oman. It provides summary market information for all stakeholders, including investors, beneficiaries, and licensed companies, and offers an update on the performance of the telecommunications and postal sectors and their contribution to the economy.
The report indicated that the number of new fixed broadband subscriptions using 5G technology reached 25,000, and the total number of 5G stations reached about 4,566. The growth rate in mobile phone subscriptions reached 4% in the second quarter of 2023 compared to the fourth quarter of 2022, achieving a penetration rate of 142% of the total population, with more than 7 million subscriptions.
The growth rate of mobile broadband subscriptions reached 5% compared to the fourth quarter of 2022, achieving a penetration rate of 120% of the total population, with more than 5mn and 900 thousand subscriptions. The percentage of fixed 5G subscriptions reached 36% of the total 540,284 fixed broadband subscriptions.
