Muscat – North Sharqiyah governorate has announced a slew of development projects set to commence in 2024 in an effort to invigorate the economy and offer enhanced recreational facilities.
According to an official, the governorate will float tenders for numerous projects, including Sharqiyah Park, Arbaa Market renovation, Bidiyah Entertainment Centre, Al Khalidiya Park in Wadi Bani Khalid and Al Ghubrah Park in Dima Wa al Taien. Additionally, several walkways are in the pipeline.
These projects align with the Governorate Development Programme, which has got the attention and support of His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik.
The official informed that a delegation from the Ministry of Economy recently visited the governorate. Headed by Dr Nasser Rashid al Ma’awali, Undersecretary, the delegation reviewed various projects in the governorate, including a sports stadium in Ibra and lake project in Wadi Bani Khalid.
Ma’awali informed that 606 projects have been undertaken in Governorate Development Programme to date. Projects across all governorates saw full completion in 2021, while those slated for 2022/2023 are 70% complete.
He indicated plans for more projects in 2024, including the Al Maward Market in Sinaw and a new building for the College of Engineering and Technology at the University of Technology and Applied Sciences in Ibra.
In a significant boost to development efforts, His Majesty the Sultan has doubled the funds allocated to the Governorate Development Programme, raising the sum from RO10mn to RO20mn for each governorate in the ongoing Five-Year Plan (2021-2025).
