Muscat – Oman is taking part in Expo 2023 Doha Horticultural Exhibition being held under the slogan ‘Green Desert, Better Environment.’

Oman’s pavilion showcases 1,600 specimens of trees and plants transported from the Oman Botanic Garden and planted in the designated land of Oman’s pavilion.

The pavilion presents different types of Omani environments. It offers a simulation of the terraced farms of Jebel Akhdar in Dakhliyah, khareef in Dhofar and the semi-arid environment. It also presents some perennial species of Oman, including the frankincense and the baobab found in Dhofar – the last habitat of existence of such plants in the Arabian Peninsula.

The pavilion allows visitors to learn about the engineering heritage of the centuries-old Omani aflaj irrigation system, which reflects the values of cooperation among local communities.

Visitors are also given a treat through exhibits of the Oman Botanic Garden and a fountain made of high-density peridotite rocks. These rocks are common in all parts of Oman, known for their property of capturing and storing carbon dioxide gas and protecting the ozone layer.

The exhibition, in which 68 countries and international organisations are participating, focuses on several themes, including sustainability, environmental awareness, technology, innovation and modern farming.
