Muscat – The Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology (MTCIT) has launched a marketing and awareness campaign for the Aber app, under the slogan ‘Know your fare’, with the objective of regulating taxis in Oman. 

In a statement, MTCIT said, ‘The campaign aims to regulate taxi activities in Oman as well as protect the rights of users and drivers, while maximising benefits for taxi owners by taking advantage of the features available in the app.’

The campaign is expected to improve operations of taxis in Oman in three phases. 

The first phase began on Sunday, targeting taxis operating at airports. Phase II will begin on November 1, targeting taxis operating at hotels, commercial centres and ports, and Phase III will begin on January 1, 2024 targeting taxis operating in public places.

The Aber app is a single window that includes all licensed taxis in Oman, offering easy access and registration in one place. Earlier, MTCIT granted two licences – to the Otaxi app and Oman Taxi app – to manage taxi services at Muscat International Airport, after they met the requirements and provisions of the regulations of the Land Transport Law.
