Muscat – The Ministry of Higher Education, Research and Innovation (MoHERI) announced the winners of the Falling Walls Lab Oman 2023 competition, held in collaboration with the Falling Walls Foundation Germany, on Tuesday at Innovation Park Muscat.
The 21 finalists of the competition, selected from 95 projects that applied this year, presented their research and business models in different disciplines in three minutes each to a high-level competition jury for the final round of evaluation.
‘Breaking the Wall of Methane Biosynthesis’ by Shabib al Rashdi (National University of Science and Technology), ‘Breaking the Wall of Lost Heat in Solar Cells’ by Anfal al Busaidi (Sultan Qaboos University) and ‘Breaking the Wall of Aging Minds: AI-Enhanced Diagnostics’ by Abdullah al Ghailani (Oman Medical Specialty Board) were announced winners.
The winners will participate in the global Falling Walls Lab Finale as representatives of the sultanate on November 7 and attend the Falling Walls Science Summit from November 7 to 9 in Berlin, Germany.
MoHERI has participated in the Falling Walls Lab competition every year since 2016. The competition aims at boosting innovative ideas and business models among researchers and entrepreneurs across different fields. The competition also provides a platform for up-and-coming researchers to interact with some of the most accomplished scholars, thus, offering an opportunity for emerging researchers and entrepreneurs from varying disciplines to expand their horizon and spike their interest in the research field even further.
