Muscat – The Ministry of Health (MoH) on Tuesday unveiled a national framework to engage patients and their family members in policy making processes for improved healthcare safety.
The National Patient Engagement Framework – launched during the 5th National and 4th World Patient Safety Day conference – seeks active participation of patients in policy-making, governance, and safety strategy design.
It advocates for patients to be collaborative partners in the healthcare they receive.
The ministry stressed the importance of creating avenues for patients, families, and communities to voice their thoughts, concerns, and expectations about healthcare safety.

This year’s World Patient Safety Day theme was ‘engaging patients for patient safety’, highlighting the pivotal role of patients, families, and caregivers in healthcare safety.
Celebrated annually on September 17, this day draws attention to the significance of patient involvement at all healthcare levels.
H E Dr Saeed al Lamki, Undersecretary for Health Affairs in MoH, presided over the opening ceremony. Key virtual attendees included Dr Ahmed al Mandhari, WHO Eastern Mediterranean Regional Director, and Dr Jean Jabbour, WHO Representative in Oman.
Senior officials from the ministry were also present.
Organised by the Directorate General of Quality Assurance Centre in partnership with the WHO Office in Oman, the conference featured a mix of in-person and online lectures from distinguished local, regional, and international speakers.
A panel discussion, moderated by MoH spokesperson Dr Al Mutasim al Mamari, incorporated insights from prominent figures such as H E Hilal al Sarmi, member of Majlis A’Shura, and several healthcare officials.
The objective of the World Patient Safety Day is to enhance global awareness of the essential involvement of patients and their caregivers across healthcare settings.
