Muscat – The Public Authority for Special Economic Zones and Free Zones (OPAZ) launched Omap Platform on Monday. This digital portal provides integrated geographical maps, offering comprehensive data on masterplans for special economic zones, free zones and industrial cities managed by OPAZ.
Omap is designed to offer users detailed insights into these zones, making it a pioneering platform for an online land allocation service initiated by OPAZ.
The launch of Omap aligns with OPAZ’s mission to elevate investor services. The platform aims to streamline procedures, saving both time and effort, while ensuring plans remain distinct and there is no overlapping.
Investors and other users will benefit from easy-to-access, accurate spatial data through interactive maps. These maps highlight land available for investment and the corresponding economic activities.
The platform’s primary objective is to highlight investment opportunities both within and outside Oman. By furnishing crucial spatial data, it bolsters the decision-making process for potential investors, all while embracing contemporary urban planning tech.
According to Najya bint Sultan al Hajri, Head of Geographical Information System (GIS), Omap offers features like specific location search, in-depth information on landmarks, utilities and facilities. “Users can obtain details about land type, usufruct rates, size and more. The platform even measures distance between locations, vital for transporting goods to international markets.”
She continued, “GIS enthusiasts can tap into the platform to access recent satellite imagery, add details, upload photos and even log coordinates for various OPAZ-affiliated sites. Users will also be made aware of drone-friendly zones and areas off-limits for drone activity. A forthcoming feature will allow users to request project photography.”
Elaborating on its utility features, Najya informed that the platform includes measurements, plans, mapping tools and more. It supports user needs, allowing interactive location validation on maps. Additionally, users can identify tourist sites, camping locations, reserves and even access data on weather conditions, as it integrates with climate monitoring systems.
