New Delhi, India – Representing His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik, Sayyid Asaad bin Tarik al Said, Deputy Prime Minister for International Relations and Cooperation Affairs, and Personal Representative of His Majesty the Sultan, chaired the delegation of the Sultanate of Oman at deliberations of the closing session of the 18th G20 summit, which was held in New Delhi.

Sayyid Asaad delivered a speech during the closing session in which he stressed that Oman lays emphasis on joint action and that the sultanate agrees with the vision of the Indian presidency on establishing ‘One Future’ for human civilisation, notably at a time when challenges are expected to emerge in the coming years. The theme of the 18th G20 summit is ‘One Earth, One Family, One Future’.

Sayyid Asaad stated that Oman welcomes the remarkable efforts exerted along many tracks aimed at defining a map of global skills and minimising the gap between available skills and requirements of the labour market.

Sayyid Asaad pointed out that the dedication of digital infrastructure to serve all nations will play an important role in realising sustainable economic growth, noting that this is consistent with Oman’s approach. He added that Oman welcomes initiatives to provide all means of making knowledge accessible to all, and reiterated that the sultanate agrees with the G20 countries to devise safe, reliable and well-established policies for a digital economy.

Appreciating India’s invitation to Oman to participate in the 18th G20 summit, he said the gesture reflects the depth of relations between the two friendly countries. He also congratulated India on the successful landing of its spacecraft on the moon, a development he described as “a great achievement and a turning point for a promising future”.

Prior to the closing session, Sayyid Asaad and his delegation joined other delegates in visiting the Mahatma Gandhi Memorial in New Delhi to pay floral tributes.

The summit focused on the issue of sustainable development, in addition discussing ways to spread economic growth in a more balanced way between developed and developing countries.

Oman’s participation in the summit on the invitation of India consolidates the sultanate’s position as an active partner in development and prosperity, regionally and internationally.
