Muscat – Two people lost their lives and another was seriously injured in a road accident in Haima, Al Wusta on Tuesday.
Road accidents have claimed several lives this year, like every year, during the khareef season when hundreds of thousands of people take the road to Dhofar from various parts of Oman and the wider Gulf.
According to the National Centre for Statistics and Information, 581,723 visitors arrived in Dhofar via land checkpoints from June 21 to August 15.
The Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) in Al Wusta reported another accident that occurred on Sunday. Two persons were injured in that accident and were moved to Haima Hospital.
In August alone, DGHS Al Wusa reported the death of three persons and injuries of 46 people following accidents on roads leading to Dhofar.
Two people lost their lives and seven others were injured when two vehicles collided in Haima on August 12, while another died on August 22.
Despite the Royal Oman Police and Civil Defence and Ambulance Authority’s elaborate arrangements every year for the safety of visitors to Dhofar during khareef, several accidents occur on road leading to the governorate. The majority of the accidents reported were due to over speeding, and in certain cases when drivers lost control owing to bad weather.
The management of Haima Hospital on Tuesday extended its thanks to the emergency department team at the hospital ‘for their management of accident and emergency cases with the available resources in all professionalism and humanity during this exceptional period of the Khareef Dhofar 2023’.
