Muscat – Sultan Qaboos University (SQU) initiated drone flight skill testing for the third group of students in the Oman AI-enhanced Drone Competition. The university is partnering with the Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology, and Ooredoo Oman for this program.
The testing involved three stages, a virtual flight simulation on a computer, indoor flight within a lab, and outdoor flight. Manual and automatic controllers were used.
This year’s training program aims to train 120 participants for the Oman Competition for AI-enhanced Drones. The first group of 60 students completed a rigorous two-week program in July, covering both theory and practical workshops.
In October, the top 40 out of the 120 participants will be chosen. They will then undergo intensive theoretical and practical training on integrating AI and vision systems with drones in November. The final competition is scheduled for February, coinciding with the International Conference on Unmanned Vehicle Systems hosted by the College of Engineering at Sultan Qaboos University.
