Muscat – The 77th Independence Day of India was celebrated in Oman with great enthusiasm and patriotic fervour. The embassy building was lit up in colours of the Indian flag on the eve of Independence Day.
A flag hoisting ceremony was organised at the embassy to celebrate the day with the Indian community on the morning of August 15. H E Amit Narang, Ambassador of India to the sultanate, hoisted the tricolour, which was followed by singing of the national anthem. In addition, a soulful performance of patriotic songs by Indian School Seeb students added colour to the celebrations.
H E Narang read out excerpts from the President of India’s address to the nation. He encouraged everyone to be a part of India’s growth story and the journey towards self-reliance and propagate the country’s message of peace and development.
The ambassador spoke about Mission Life, an initiative launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, noting that by making small yet impactful changes in our daily lives, each one of us can contribute to safeguarding the environment.
A special display showcasing Indian millets commemorating 2023 as the ‘International Year of Millets’ was arranged at the embassy premises on the occasion. Millets serve as a solution to various food security challenges and promote holistic health.
Students of Indian School Ghubra also joined hands to celebrate the joyous occasion with a dazzling cultural event held at their school. They showcased the best of Indian culture through mesmerising performances recalling India’s golden past and glorious future.
The celebrations in Oman were reflective of the greatness of India’s civilisation, the unwavering commitment of all Indians to the nation’s spirit of unity and integrity, and India’s transformative journey from its birth as a nation 76 years ago to become a beacon of global growth and development.
The celebrations also reflected the uniquely strong partnership between India and Oman and the bonds of friendship between the Indian and Omani people.
