Oman LNG signs gas export deal with Germany’s SEFE

14 Aug 2023 By OUR CORRESPONDENT

Muscat – Oman LNG has announced the signing of a binding term-sheet agreement with Germany’s Securing Energy for Europe (SEFE) to supply 400,000mn metric tonnes per annum of LNG starting 2026.

Germany and Oman held talks in June to look into the former getting gas from the sultanate in an effort to find an alternative to Russian gas supplies.

Monday’s agreement aims to enhance the growing partnerships between Oman LNG and international energy firms; SEFE has become the latest beneficiary of Omani LNG marking the first LNG term deal with a German firm.

For Oman, the move is expected to open doors for new opportunities of gas export in European markets.

According to ONA, the term-sheet agreement includes supplying a total volume of 0.4mn metric tonnes per annum of LNG to SEFE. The agreement is a four-year contract starting in 2026.

This year, several international energy firms from countries including Japan, China, Turkey and Bangladesh have signed long-term agreements to import LNG from the sultanate.

Signing term-sheet agreements beyond 2024 emphasises Oman LNG’s role in sustaining the sultanate’s reputation as a reliable and trusted LNG supplier, coupled with the effective management of business processes to produce reliable energy, and deliver it to customers around the world safely.

The agreement signing ceremony on Monday was held under the auspices of H E Salim Nasser al Aufi, Minister of Energy and Minerals. The agreement was signed by Hamed al Naamany, CEO of Oman LNG, and Frederic Barnaud, Chief Commercial Officer of SEFE.

“The term-sheet signing with SEFE marks another milestone. Going further, the agreement leverages our constant efforts to add value to Oman’s economy through growth and collaborations,” said Mahmoud Abdulsatar al Balushi, Chief Commercial Officer of Oman LNG.

On his turn, Egbert Laege, CEO of SEFE, said, “We are delighted to announce the historic contract between SEFE and Oman LNG, marking a significant milestone for both entities.”
