Ashkharah Festival showcases rich heritage of Jalan Bani bu Ali

Muscat – The Ministry of Heritage and Tourism has set up an information centre at the ongoing Ajwaa al Ashkharah Festival, which showcases the rich heritage and diverse tourism destinations of Jalan Bani bu Ali and the sultanate as a whole.  

The festival, which commenced on July 5 and will run until July 24, aims to promote domestic tourism and highlight the captivating tourist destinations in South Sharqiyah governorate.

The information centre serves as a platform for visitors to explore the unique cultural and historical aspects of Jalan Bani bu Ali, offering valuable insights into the local heritage. Additionally, the centre will host competitions and offer exciting prizes to children, enhancing their festival experience.

With the objective of showcasing South Sharqiyah and positioning it as a prominent tourist hub, the Ashkharah festival presents an excellent opportunity to highlight the remarkable archaeological and cultural sites that abound in the governorate. The festival boasts of a diverse line-up of entertainment, promotional and cultural events, including a heritage corner, fun games, beach activities and kite flying.

The festival is expected to not only contribute to the local economy but also foster social engagement and cultural exchange. It invites visitors to immerse themselves in an enriching and memorable experience celebrating the vibrant heritage of Jalan Bani bu Ali.

Oman’s tourism sector experienced a substantial boost during the winter season of 2022/23, evident from a notable increase in tourist arrivals. In February alone, the number of tourists reached 321,031, representing a remarkable surge of 156.7% compared to the same period in 2022. Among the top source markets for tourists were the United Arab Emirates, India, Germany, France, the UK, Yemen, China and Italy, reflecting the global appeal of Oman as a travel destination.
