Muscat – The Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (TRA), in cooperation with Civil Aviation Authority (CAA), will conduct trials for an early warning broadcast service on weather conditions via mobile phones in Musandam on Thursday.
This is being done with the objective of ensuring weather alerts reach people as quickly as possible.
In a statement, TRA said that the trial will begin in the wilayat of Musandam on June 15.
TRA informed that the trials for an early warning broadcast service on weather conditions has previously been conducted in Muscat, South Sharqiyah, Dhofar and South Batinah governorates, in addition to organising an awareness campaign and publishing videos in various languages to familiarise the community with the mechanism to ensure the activation of the service in mobile devices.
In the trial, warning messages of emergency will be sent to Omantel and Ooredoo subscribers.
According to TRA, the service will help send warning messages to subscribers in a particular area using mobile communications networks to alert about emergencies in line with international standards.
